Studying and working (and living) !

Life is not just playing. Life is, above all, working hard and gaining experience for sharing and working harder. Yes, we work harder and harder because we want to grow up as friends, as mothers, fathers, sons and daughters. We want to grow up as students, because we are students for all our life. 

That's me now: working hard and studying a lot, trying to write my technology doctorate dissertation. Hours and hours sitting in front of the computer, writing, reading and thinking. Hours spent reading technology books with a highlighter in my hands. I do that at home, in the library (at UFMG), in the doctor's office (while I'm waiting for my time), on the bus (while I'm going to the dentist's downtown). I do that everywhere. I carry books, pens and notebooks with me wherever I go. No, I'm not neurotic, I'm just studying a lot, and that's making me see life in a different way: a wiser (and technological) way.

What about you ? How have books been present in your life now ? How have you spent your "studying time" ? As I'm away from you, my students (and some friends) now, I want to hear from you in this blog !

My 2010 was perfect !!

The year is almost over and I am thinking about all the perfect things that happened. My 2010 was great ! I began it in the USA (I could finish this post right here !). Then I had a great time traveling to places: I went to Aracaju in April and to the South of Brazil in July. No Rio de Janeiro and no São Paulo this year (yet !) but that's ok. I did many nice and funny things.
I put on some weight (that's bad !) but I am feeling good. I'm planning on going on a diet soon.
I read a lot, went to the movies a lot, studied a lot, worked a lot !
I hope the good energy of 2010 will be the same in  2011. For all of us !

My winter vacation

I went to the south of Brazil in July. I spent 4 days in Curitiba, 4 days is Porto Alegre and 3 days in Canela/Gramado. In Curitiba I visited the wonderful Botanical Garden and the beautiful Santa Felicidade neighborhood. I Porto Alegre I saw the Guaíba River and walked around the city. In Gramado/Canela I thought I was in Europe: such a beautiful architecture ! The two places are very charming. Although it was winter, it was not very cold during the days I was there. In fact, the cold arrived exactly when I was leaving ! 

I had a terrific vacation in July. What about you ? What did you do on your winter vacation ?

Things to do in New York

I guess I should list some extraordinary things I plan to do there (in 3 days, only ?) but what made me create this post was a list of restaurant suggestions I found in a blog (http://luciana.misura.org/2009/12/09/restaurantes-em-ny/). This clearly shows my intentions of eating well there. Visiting the Central Park comes second and shopping must be considered. I was told to buy good boots there, to walk comfortably in snow. Meanwhile, I keep dreaming...

What will 2010 be like ?

At the end of the year, many people start making predictions about what will happen the next year. Some people have already started to "guess" what 2010 will be like:

• there will be surprises in economy and investiments;
• Brazilian soccer team will win the World Cup;
• Beija-Flor and Salgueiro will fight for the first position in the Carnival competition;
• armed conflicts will happen around the planet;
• a promissing company (probably Twitter) will be acquired by Google in September;
• Sandy will release her first solo album;
• the United States will send missions to the moon and they will start building lunar colonies;
• Flamengo and Coríntians will fight for the Brazilian soccer championship;
• Felipe Massa will get back to Formule 1 competitions.

My vacation

I'm looking forward to my vacation. I'm spending it in the USA ! Yes, I'm going to California ! My brother lives there and I'm spending some time there with him. We're planning to spend Christmas and New Year's in Boston and then we return to California, where I'm staying until the end of January.

In California I want to visit San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Santa Cruz and San Diego. I want to meet people, eat good food and buy lots of things for me.

This is going to be my dream vacation !

New Year's Resolutions

Well, 2009 is going away and 2010 is knocking on our door. That's the time to start thinking about our New Year's Resolutions. I already have new plans for my new year. Check my list out:
